The German National Tourist Board has announced the list of the 100 most popular attractions for international visitors to Germany after inviting international visitors on its website to nominate their favorite attractions since 2012. Between March and August 2016 more than 40,000 website visitors from 66 countries participated in the voting, which allowed open-ended responses. The Top 100 section of the website was one of the most visited sections of the tourist website and suggests that rankings are important when it comes to planning trips.
Hamburg's Miniature Wonderland took out the number one spot, with Heidelberg Castle and old quarter, Europa-Park, Neuschwanstein Castle and the old town of Rothenburg rounding out the top 5. Nature was also highly ranked with several nations parks making the list, and the UNESCO World Heritage Lake Constance region, considered by Germans to be a natural paradise, and Europe's third largest inland lake, coming in at number 6.
